1957. Sixteen-year-old Sasha,  sets out into the world on her own after the death of her mother, Eve.

Eve, a free spirit, lived life by the philosophy of her mentor, Klara Sasha Kolabielski for whom she named her daughter. Klara’s philosophy for a Complete and Joyous Life was straightforward:

“First, strive to be moral and tolerant and have a purpose greater than yourself. Second, despite the neigh sayers, all pleasures that aren’t at anyone else’s expense are to be savored, so revel in fine food and drink, the world’s cultures, art, literature, and music. Third, live your life free from closed minded restrictions. Dance, smoke a cigar, go skinny dipping. If the only downside of doing something you’d like to do is some jerk’s condemnation, do it.”

Cursed, as she described it, by an unbridled beauty and sensuality, Eve’s journeys took her around the world, dodging rockets during the blitz in London, challenging the royalty of Key West to drinking contests, and always there were men, lovers she rarely loved and but one she loved and lost.

She brought Sasha into a harsh world of misogyny and prejudice where she, Eve, didn’t fit in and where Sasha would walk in her footsteps.

Recording the glories and tragedies of her life in her journal, she impresses on Sasha a maturity her daughter was eager to absorb.

Lover’s Tarot is Sasha’s story of coping with her mother’s loss, her abandonment and escape, and surviving and succeeding in a punishing world.
